Houston Hispanics
Get No Respect
By Marc Campos

Houston Hispanics, we have a problem. Only one Houston area Hispanic made the list of Hispanic Business Magazine's 100 Influentials. His name is Jose Hernandez, an astronaut trainee at NASA.

We should have more representation on the list. However, the oversight should not come as a surprise. We have not done a good job of letting folks outside of Houston know that we have a very vibrant and large Hispanic community.

In order to get some serious run in publications like Hispanic Business we need to do a better job of marketing our community.

One might ask, "what's the point? or who cares?"

As the U.S. Hispanic population continues to increase, so too does the participation of Hispanic leaders in the national public policy debate. It would be nice if the voice of the largest population group of the 4th largest U.S. city was part of the debate.
