Victory for Arrogance? Los Votantes, Carolís Party Tonight, The Lovely Wendy, Auntie Em!

“It’s a ridiculous notion to say you cannot legislate morality,” said Guv Dude yesterday.   Yeah, well I got something Guv Dude can try to legislate.

A couple of friends of mine that are Rs agree with me that Guv Dude is a pretty arrogant fella.  Way over half of Texas voters think Guv Dude ought to be replaced and he still talks sh__ and now HE wants to legislate morality?  Sorry pal, arrogance ain’t a moral value in my book!

Arrogance is pretty contagious this year.  Let’s take Lady Foghorn for example.  Foghorn doesn’t like Guv Dude and instead of helping someone knock him off, she takes off on a mission impossible bon voyage.  After next Tuesday, I’ll bet you anything that not a single soul that was in her inner circle will admit to coming up with the “independent” candidacy idea.

The arrogance bug also hit The Kinkhole big time.  The ‘Hole hardly ever votes and now he wants to govern?  We’re not a constituency to The ‘Hole, we’re a venue!  His act closes Tuesday night and what will he have accomplished?  He’s not doing anything to help take down Guv Dude.  He’s not looking for votes, he’s looking for applause!

The lead story in today’s Chron is about Latinos not posting major gains in voter registration numbers – what else is new?  GOPredators don’t want Latinos to vote and Dem Party leaders are too dumb to mount a major Latino voter registration and get-out-the-vote effort.  Heck, Dem Party leaders won’t even crack on Nicky for bashing Latinos.  We, errr Latinos know what’s happening.  Latinos pay attention.  Latinos didn’t see too many blue eyed Dem Party elected officials marching with them this past Spring, why should they return the non favor – period?

One Of My Best Friends, errr Houston City Council Member Carol Alvarado, errr a Commentary client, has her official birthday celebration this evening (8 p.m.) at the Rice Lofts.  A lot of the local political, media, downtown, and community folks will attend.  Food, dancing galore and more!  Be there!

Lovely Wendy is now a lawyer – she passed the Bar. Props go to Wendy Montoya.  The Lovely Wendy has a busy year ahead.  She has her wedding to put together – 6/30/07.  She has a career to kick off.  She also has her fiancé’s (The Young Gun) city council campaign to help guide.  The Lovely Wendy can handle it!

“Tuesday is a day of independence for all the Democrats and their descendants!”  Well, I kind of took this from “The Wizard of Oz.”

Fifty years ago this evening, CBS aired “The Wizard of Oz” on TV.  Commentary was only four years young back then and we had a black and white TV.  I think I remember that night as I always anticipated the TV airing of my third best movie of all time.

Hey, I’m not the only one that thinks highly of this flick.  The American Film Institute (AFI) rates it as their 6th best flick ever.  The AFI ranks “Over the Rainbow” as the best movie tune of all time – “Ding Dong the Witch is Dead” is #82.

Of AFI’s top 100 movie quotes, “Toto, I’ve got a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore” is #4.  “There’s no place like home” is #23.  “I’ll get you, my pretty, and your little dog too” is #99.

Judy Garland gets AFI’s 8th best all time female movie star.

AFI’s 4th all time villain – The Wicked Witch of the West” of course, behind Hannibal Lecter, Norman Bates, and Darth Vader – need I say more.

I’m packing my lunch today in my “Wizard of Oz” lunchbox.
