In a crass display of arrogance, Houston State Representative Martha Wong stood-up approximately 100 of her constituents yesterday at the Texas State Capitol in Austin. The constituents were participating in the Planned Parenthood of Houston and Southeast Texas Legislative Lobby Day.
A couple of hours before the scheduled meeting, Rep. Wong's office informed Planned Parenthood leaders that she would be too busy to meet and would instead send an aide.
The constituents - most of them who took a day off from work - just wanted to ask Rep. Wong to consider supporting current funding levels for family planning and a Medicaid waiver for family planning and reproductive health services. Wong chose to take the no-show route and hid from the folks that live in her district. Martha, my dear, you blew it.
