Immigrant Card, Massey Strikes, Ashtray-less, First Pitch

Poor Orlando. Orlando Sanchez is now the GOP nominee for Harris County Treasurer - an office that should not exist. The County Commissioners' Court recently passed a resolution calling for the abolishment of the office. Orlando is now injecting the immigrant card into the debate, strongly hinting that the County Commissioners don't want him holding the position because he's an immigrant.

Said Orlando in today's Chron: "It makes you wonder, especially since I could become the first Hispanic and the first immigrant elected countywide." Awww, this is from the same fella that wants to use the office as a bully pulpit to bash immigrants. This guy is an embarrassment.

My friend Terry forwarded these quotes in a newspaper article from my old friend and stalwart GOPer Massey Villarreal from Houston.

"We are trying to bring immigrants out of the shadows. But, I doubt if I am going to get an immigrant to a Republican panel hearing on the border. It's like asking someone to show up for their own hanging. I tell you, they are as patriotic as hell. I have yet to see one Hispanic immigrant say, 'Hell to America'. I have yet to see one Hispanic immigrant fly a plane into a building. They are pushing a lawnmower for God's sake. This country was built on the backs of immigrants."

Massey is a big time player within the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and is a multiple appointee of W and Guv Dude. Props to Massey.

It's coming. A "complete ban" on smoking in Houston's restaurants and bars, according to today's Chron. The City Hall effort to enact the ban will be led by One Of My Best Friends. She will be armed with yesterday's Surgeon General's report on second hand smoke. To those that will oppose the ban, don't bother wasting your time. The ban is working in places like California, New York and Massachusetts. The ban is way overdue.

Roger looked great last night and our bats didn't. What else is new? Thank goodness the Cardinals are playing awful.

Speaking of baseball, the Dad of The Young Political Consultant that works for Commentary, will throw out the First Pitch at the yard next Monday - the Cubbies are in town. He's a big shot with the folks that have the naming rights at the yard. Hope he gets it over the plate.
