A Gramm Quacker and the City of Houston Independent School District

“I want to cut his nuts off,” said John McCain yesterday – allegedly - about his top economic advisor Phil Gramm. Hey McCain, that’s what you get for leaning on a fella whose wife help run Enron into the ground! Meanwhile, the “nation of whiners” keep lining up to pay for $4 plus a gallon gasoline while taking two Tylenols every four hours to deal with our “mental recession.” I’m betting we don’t hear from Phil Gramm again this election year. He’s on his way to Political Graveyard 2008 – move over Jeremiah!

H-Town’s Mayor has appointed a committee to get involved in the HISD possible school closing issue. Check it out in today’s Chron. I don’t know about this. HISD has a process set up already and they are holding community meetings. One of the potential problems is that two of the committee members are running for another office next year and they just might use this issue to advance their political agenda. For example, Commentary hears that folks within HISDNation were already unhappy with H-Town Council Member Peter Brown for opposing last year’s school bond election. They figured that Brown was kowtowing to the African American vote. I’m sure they are thinking that Brown will weigh in on this school closing issue to score points for his mayoral campaign. Commentary has to agree with this.

The other concern is if this “meddling” somehow contributes to HISD Abe Saavedra’s job and contract status then maybe Latino leaders and voters can hold “others” accountable. That’s pretty good. We finally get a Latino Superintendent here in H-Town and now we have a bunch of other folks trying to tell him how to do his job. “No Se Puede!” Stay tuned!

Meanwhile, Ebony came out with its 25 Coolest Brothers and Rev. Jesse Jackson isn’t on the list…..tsk, tsk, tsk!

Numero 45 will be making his concession speech today in our nation’s Capitol. Commentary hears that in his speech, Numero 45 will ask his supporters to get enthusiastically behind that National League Team as they take on the American League squad in next Tuesday’s All Star game from Yankee Stadium. The ‘Stros will also announce today they will help pay off Numero 45’s campaign debt – whew! We’re thirteen games out and in D.C. for three.
