GOPisms

First of all I wish you hadn’t quit us. I’m looking forward to seeing you as the Joker in the next Batman. That’s all I’m going to say about Heath Ledger who has one of the best lines in cinema history.

Correction – yesterday was the 35th anniversary of Roe v Wade.

You can’t tell Commentary that the writers are striking in Harris County. This DA stuff is a great story with numerous plot lines and great characters. It just keeps on entertaining us. In a matter of weeks it has gone from a pilot program to a full fledged mini series. It is like a three ring circus.

What this story tells us is that the local GOP is leaderless this morning. There are no elder GOP statesmen/women that have stepped forward to take control of a political situation that is spinning out of control. Apparently, nobody in right field land has enough cred to say “stop the madness!”

You have to figure that the local GOP strategists and consultants know this is taking a toll. The local GOP ship is taking on water big time.

Meanwhile, GOP Texas Supreme Court Justice Paul Green has to explain 272 campaign fund reimbursements he made to himself over the past three years. It looks to me like he was converting campaign funds into personal funds – a definite not so good thing to do. Commentary is predicting that other elected will have their reports examined and we will see more campaign funds being used for personal stuff – including some Dems. Of course, I wonder if Dems will be as tough on Dem violators as we are on GOP violators.

The Law and Order fella dropped out of the Prez sweepstakes. Funny, I never actually thought he dropped in.

I’m sorry, but Harris County Judge Ed Emmett using tax dollars to pay for a press conference backdrop with his name on it isn’t going to get Dems to first base. As far as I’m concerned, that isn’t a story. Like what about all those green signs out there that tell us, errr warn us that we are near the office of a state senator or state representative. What’s the point? How about the signs at public construction sites that list all the electeds – huh!

Jerome wants Commentary to check out Best Pic nominee “Juno.” I will. I also want to check out Best Actress nominee Julie Christie. At 66, I hear she still don’t need touching up. She was great as Lara and Jackie in “Dr. Zhivago” and “Shampoo.”

Former ‘Stro Octavio Dotel just signed a two year contract worth $11 mil with the White Sox as Spring Training approaches – huh? Meanwhile new ‘Stros closer Jose Valverde wants $6.2 mil for this season – yikes – just don’t hike up the price of a St. Arnold’s!
