Strayhorn Out, Another City Hall Indictment

By Marc Campos

State Comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn was purposely omitted from a Texas GOP fundraising invitation. The invitation to a major gala will honor Governor Rick Perry, Lt. Governor David Dewhurst and Texas House Speaker Tom Craddick. Of course, no one will take the credit - err blame - for the omission. The Guv's folks say talk to the state GOP, the GOP say talk to the fundraisers. The fundraisers won't talk. Put your money on Perry's folks being responsible for this slight. In any event, the omission is being reported in every major state newspaper. The GOP infighting continues.

Another top aide to former Houston Mayor Lee Brown was indicted on federal bribery charges. Monique McGilbra, the former director of Building Services, was taken into custody last night. On TV she was seen handcuffed wearing a fur coat. The Chron is saying that she received thousands of dollars in gifts and favors including a $4,500 trip to the Super Bowl. The Chron goes on to say that a brother to a high ranking city official is also involved. Commentary has a pretty good idea on the identity of the brother. Another stain on the Brown administration.
