The Strip House

By Marc Campos

The Strip House is a restaurant that opened recently in downtown Houston on McKinney Street a couple of blocks from the Four Seasons Hotel. The name Strip House is a double entendre. It is a steak house - strip steaks. It also has girlie photographs on the walls throughout the restaurant - strip joint.

The black and white photos of nude women appear to be 1920s - 1950s pin-up type poses. A young woman whose advice I value commented that the photos were nicely done. There are also other photographs of famous celebrities - mostly movie stars - on the walls. In the evening, only the nude photos are lighted.

The restaurant has had a few mentions in the Chron's social gossip column. It is apparently a hangout for some of the "in crowd". This writer checked the place out for a possible event and asked the restaurant staff if any patrons found the nude photos offensive. They replied that a few had. I mentioned the restaurant decor to a few women and they thought it was distasteful and tacky.

If you get the chance, check it out and let us know what you think.

Back to the freeway tow issue. In today's Chron, four letters against and one for. Count State Senator John Whitmire among the against crowd. Whitmire told the Chron, "The city needs to go back to the drawing board."

Congrats go to Houston for being named "The Fattest City" by Men's Fitness magazine. This is the fourth time we have won this dishonor. Seattle was named "The Fittest City".
