Tow, Tow, Tow Your Car

By Marc Campos

In today's Chron, there are five letters-to-the-editor on the new freeway tow policy. Three against, two for. Also in today's Chron, the "Duh Award" goes to their story on the number of freeway tows to date. Headline: "Towing numbers far exceed forecast". What did they expect? These are tow truck drivers we are talking about. They make their living based on the number of tows they handle. They have their zones that they paid for and like buzzards will prey on the stranded motorist - all in the name of reducing traffic congestion.

There is also a story on Mayor Bill White's first year in office. The Mayor gets a deservedly good grade. There is a wee bit of criticism in that some on council grumble that the Mayor keeps them out of the deliberative process on policy issues. There is even an editorial cartoon on this touchy subject.

In his first year in office, the Mayor has taken on some tough issues like the pension problem and the budget. He has made some tough decisions. His approach and style seem to be working and getting results. Let's hope that year two is a success.
