County Dems, James, Punches, Etc.

If Harris County Democrats are going to be successful in county wide races next year – 2008 – a whole lot of work needs to be done. It’s not enough that we will now have the Harris County Judgeship up for grabs. It is also not enough that we have an impressive array of candidates.

A good friend of mine who knows something about voters in Harris County did an analysis and he says we Dems still have a ways to go. We’re not exactly Dallas County he says. Hmmmm!

Local Dems need to decide soon that first and foremost there needs to be a major effort in Harris County’s growing Latino community. There needs to be a major allocation of resources to register more Latino voters and begin to have a “dialogue” with this community. If the local Dem leadership continues to ignore this community – then, well – Dems will continue to come up short on Election Day. What a pity!

Notes from James Rodriguez’ reception this past Tuesday evening: Chris Bell received good reviews as the evenings’ emcee. Chris had some good lines. Hey, what did you expect! Chris is probably the Texas Dem Party’s best speaker around. Council Member Carol Alvarado did an excellent job of introducing James. James Rodriguez definitely looked like a leader that is ready to serve the public. Over a couple of hundred enthusiastic supporters attended – great crowd.

The punch throwing has begun in the Dem Prez sweepstakes. Warning to Obama –watch out for the Clinton left hook. Remember, Bill is a lefty.

On Saturday, April 21 the Parrot Heads head to the yard. Jimmy Buffet plays Minute Maid Park – cool. The ‘Stros will be in Milwaukee that evening.

“I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible” Harry said to Sally in “When Harry Met Sally.” The 1989 flick on received only one Oscar nomination – for best screenplay – it didn’t win.
