Good Idea, Liberal Repubs, Service, Carranza Chips

Metroplex Latino leaders and activists will convene tomorrow evening in Arlington at the "North Texas Hispanic (errr, Latino) Summit." A number of issues will be addressed. Great idea. Houston area Latino leaders need to put together their own summit. As I recall, the last Houston area Latino summit was in 1990 - to talk about public education. Normally, Commentary would take a lead role on putting something like this together, but since my influenced has recently declined - according to the Chron - nobody is going to pay attention to what I have to say.

A new PAC has been created called the Texas Republican Legislative Campaign Committee - they are a pro voucher group that has targeted "liberal Republicans." Huh! Didn't know we had some Nelson Rockefeller wannabees in the legislature. They're actually going after State House GOP incumbents that won't support vouchers. They are putting in some serious buckos into these races.

Caught part of the Coretta Scott King services yesterday. Very moving. Bill Clinton was the best speaker - what else is new.

Rebecca Webb Carranza died recently - she was 98. Her claim to fame? She came up with the tortilla chip idea. Wonder if she was ever invited to the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl?
