HISD's Di, OK Katie

She's 33 years young and is the President of the Board of Education of the state's largest school district - meet Diana Davila. She's bright, articulate and bi-lingual. She lives in the 'hood. Her husband, Abel, serves on the Board of Trustees of the Houston Community College System (HCCS). She and her husband are the parents of two young children. Like the Mayor Pro Tem and Laura Salinas (remember Laura?), she is also a graduate of Milby High School. She was elected in 2003 and will run for reelection in 2007.

She'll get good run this year serving as HISD's Board President. In fact, she'll speak today at the Superintendent's annual "State of the Schools" luncheon. She'll be around politics for awhile. Keep an eye on her, she's part of the future of local Latino politics.

Katie Couric might become the next anchor of the "CBS Evening News." I like that idea. I watch "The Today Show" every morning, in part, because I like Katie. I think she is pretty cool. Who says you need a dude to preside over the 5:30 p.m. news? Elizabeth Vargas is doing OK over at ABC. I might have to get another TV so I can watch Katie and Elizabeth at the same time.
