Running And Running

This will be the first time in Commentary’s memory that an H-Town Mayor runs for statewide office while serving as Mayor – I think. It will definitely be a challenge to try to run the fourth largest city in the U.S. of A. while at the same time trying to get voters from the rest of the state to support his candidacy for the U.S. Senate. It gets kind of dicey in a strong mayor form of government to campaign in the Lone Star State’s twenty media markets. If something goes wrong in H-Town while the Mayor is in someplace like Abilene meeting with Dems, what does he do? While he is out dealing with thousands of Dem elected officials, party leaders, activists, media, and E-Boards, he’ll also have to be balancing the concerns of his fourteen - errr thirteen for a while -colleagues on the H-Town City Council – some of whom are also GOPers or some who don’t necessarily support his political agenda. The H-Town Mayor is already being banged around by the local GOP and by Dem folks that aren’t happy that he has a GOP fundraiser or stayed out of the 2008 elections. Talk about multi tasking while hop scotching the state – yikes!

A New York GOP Congressman took a few shot at Caroline Kennedy on CNN yesterday. He referred to her as wealthy, an Upper Eastside type, and a Park Avenue regular. I don’t think that will play too well when we start seeing images why she doesn’t have a dad and how her mom handled things. Commentary can’t believe that her detractors are kind of hinting that she is some out of touch rich socialite. Be very careful GOP!

Obama’s Cabinet is just about all set and it doesn’t have someone from the Lone Star State. Hey, what did we expect? I think the rest of the U.S. of A. is OK with that in light of the fact that W, W’s Brain and all the other folks from the Lone Star State that W took with him help run our federal government, economy, and worldwide image into the ditch.

Sam Bottoms who played Lance in “Apocalypse Now” died Tuesday at age 53.

Dave Smith who played for the ‘Stros from 1980 to 1990 died yesterday at age 53. He was a darn good closer and helped get us into the playoffs a couple of times.

Commentary has been playing a Christmas tune album by Samy Davis, Jr., Dean Martin and the Chairman of the Board - cool. That is how it should be done.

Commentary rarely rips the ‘Stros. That’s why they sent me another cool Christmas ornament yesterday from The Yard. I’ll try to put it on my website later this afternoon.
