Teach This, Political Hypocrisy, Add 2, African Sugar Plums

You know, it’s hard for Commentary to feel sorry for them. I’m talking about Texas teacher groups that are mad because Guv Dude is directing the state’s teacher pension fund investments. Well, teacher groups should have thought about this before they supported Lady Foghorn’s MI 2006. Rank and file teachers that are worried about their retirement checks ought to direct their ire at their leaders that followed Foghorn’s yellow brick road to nowhere. Ringing Da Bell would have been the better play. It looks like that teacher commercial wasn’t that effective after all.

Speaking of Guv Dude, how come we’re not surprised that Senator Armtwister, a Dem, errr alledgedly, will be carrying Dude’s water during the upcoming legislative session.

Let them eat very expensive meat! Analysts are now predicting that the price of meat will go up because of the paperless folks that were snatched up at meat processing plants by the feds a few days ago. Does that we’ll have to pay more to get the chorizo? I guess it looks like more rice and beans for me in the future. I know fish tacos are preferred in some quarters, but fish tamales on Christmas Day at my parents’ house? I don’t know about that.

Is this what you call hypocrisy? Sometimes the drama helps make the point like in the case where every vote does matter and count. Let’s say there were fixing to be 53 in the U.S. Senate Dem Caucus instead of 51, would the South Dakota Senator’s health be dominating the headlines? Nope. Do we actually believe that the other side is really sincere when they send over their get well cards? Are we – Dems – praying a little harder for his recovery? Does the fact that a lot is at stake matter how we conduct ourselves during these times? Have we all gone mad? Just a thought about what folks around the world – yes around the world - are probably thinking.

Kenny Boy’s buddy reported for duty, errr prison a couple of days ago and they assigned him a number – only eight digits. Hey what’s up with that? Add on a couple of more numbers and make it a cool ten to remind him of the billions that were lost.

The Golden Globe nominations came out yesterday and “WTC” and “United 93” got shut out – that’s OK. I guess I’m going to have to check out “Babel” and see what all the fuss is about. Niece Cristina, who also goes with Commentary to the yard, says to go see “Blood Diamond” – guess I’ll give it a shot.

Speaking of Christmas and tunes: How come ‘necks say “Santy Claus” instead of “Santa Claus?” You know how some tunes have been around a long time like “Silent Night” and “O Come All Ye Faithful.” “Do They Know It’s Christmas” by Band Aid – you know Bono, Boy George, Phil Collins and all those British rockers – has been around since 1984 and we still haven’t gotten rid of disease and hunger in Africa. Do you think we’ll ever have a reason to stop playing “Do They Know It’s Christmas?”

“While visions of sugar plums danced in their heads” – sugar plums, do they even exist? Yep, it involves stirring up a batch of dried prunes, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon and a bunch of other stuff …..mmmmm!
