Yesterday, Commentary said watch for surprises as the filing deadline for office approaches - January 2, 2006. Well, State Representative Richard Raymond (D - Laredo) decided to get out of the race for congress against incumbent Henry Cuellar and Ciro Rodriguez - who was beaten by Cuellar in 2004. Raymond will instead run for reelection to the Texas House. According to political observers, Raymond's campaign wasn't making headway.
While Raymond was campaigning for congress, three candidates filed for his house seat. One is now withdrawing, the other two are remaining in the race. It'll be interesting to see how Raymond fares in the March primary.
Expect more filing surprises.
