A Very Bad Mailer, And In The End ......

One Smart Mommy will probably be blamed for a very bad mailer that was sent out by the local Latino Dem organization yesterday. The piece was directed at One Smart Mommy's opponent in one of the Houston school board runoff races. The mailer mentioned jail time. Commentary thinks it a mailer with backfire potential. Don't think voters respond favorably to that type of campaigning. If One Smart Mommy wins, you make it more difficult for her to govern. When thinking about designing political mailers, it is wise to cut the tequila shots. That was one bad mail piece. By the way, do you even know who filed the original complaint.

This past Spring, this wasn't on the schedule. The tragic accident changed things. I decided to go with a certain candidate, some of my friends chose another - that's cool, that's America.

Has Laura Salinas been the perfect candidate? Of course not. There is no such thing as the perfect candidate. I'll give her this, a lot of doors were closed before she even had the chance to knock, but she hung in there. When the electeds and organizations said no way, she found comfort in the support she found when she went door to door to door to door.

I don't know what is going to happen tomorrow night but I like our chances.

To all of those - and there were many - that privately told me you were rooting for my candidate but couldn't publicly say so because the other side might make things miserable for you - thanks.

And in the end .... It has been a long and challenging seven months. This one will go up alongside '82, '88, '92, and '99 - campaigns that help define the Houston Latino political landscape. Good luck and props to La Sabrosita - it has been a pleasure.
