W Scores More Points
With Minorities
By Marc Campos

You hate to say this, but props go to W for naming another Hispanic to a high profile cabinet position. Kellogg CEO Carlos Gutierrez was named to succeed Don Evans as Secretary of Commerce. Commerce is considered one of the administration's key economic positions.

Since his reelection, W has named four cabinet replacements and two have been Hispanic. If all four were out in the private sector and all owned a small business, all could qualify to be MWBEs. Condi Rice, Margaret Spellings, Al Gonzales, and Gutierrez. Yikes!

W has certainly given Repub operatives something to crow about in minority communities. Ditto in the professional women community. Meanwhile, Dems are sitting on the sidelines - mouths agape, speechless, stunned - helplessly watching W plant powerful messages in these important Democratic Party constituency groups.

It is only a matter of time when the Repubs start getting in the faces of Dem minority players and taunting "Democrats take minorities for granted."

Do they?
