Closing The Deal And In The News

Commentary forgot to wish The Dean a Happy Birthday yesterday. I haven't seen him at The Yard lately. I guess all his constituents are gobbling up his tickets. Maybe I ought to ask him if he wants to go with me.

There is a lot of talk going on about Obama not being able to “close the deal.” They look at W’s poll numbers and folks not being happy with the GOP and that this race ought to be over by now. They say that Obama ought to have a commanding double digit lead in the polls right now – huh! Now where did that notion come from? The last I heard, we didn’t do so good in 2000 and 2004. The voters know that we’re in a dumb war and they know that the economy is tanking but they are just checking out which way to go – that’s it. This thing could go down to the wire.

The Austin American Statesman is for sale but there aren’t any takers yet. Some folks say that newspapers aren’t good investments nowadays. Younger folks don’t pick them up every morning in their driveway like Commentary. Heck, the other day the Chron’s front section was a measly eight pages while the style section was ten – huh! It’s too bad.

The Lone Star State Junior Senator says that the Lone Star State ought to be the national model for access to health care for all. That statement alone ought to get his arse run out of office. I think this fella is out of touch.

Speaking of being out of touch, yesterday W’s Sec State told Russia that this ain’t 1968 and countries just can’t go around and invade other countries and over throw governments – huh!

The ‘Stros won again last night – that’s seven in a row – that’s two games above .500 - so how come we’re now twelve back?
