A lot of folks in the H-Town region took the day off yesterday (Commentary didn’t) for a storm that never really developed. Commentary was watching the local news coverage of the storm and I could tell that the TV news people were a little bummed out that there wasn’t much in terms of chaos to report. Commentary is guessing that some elected officials were also a little disappointed because they didn’t get to look important standing behind the H-Town Mayor and the new GOP Harris County Judge at those update press conferences where they fill us in on the latest.
I guess Paris isn’t burning. Thanks for inviting her to the party. It didn’t take long for Paris Hilton to get her rapid response team in gear. She weighed in with her own ad yesterday. It’s cute. Don’t be surprised to see her in Wolf Blitzer’s “Situation Room,” taking questions from Tom Brokaw on “Meet The Press,” or doing commentary and appearances during the national conventions in the next few weeks. There will also be the obligatory Paris’ VP watch – way to go!
Commentary plans to stay tuned to some of the Olympic stuff. With the internet and a kazillion cable channels, the Olympic doesn’t dominate like in the past. Don’t be surprised if one of the Prez candidates names their VP during the games.
Commentary snagged one of those special commemorative Yankee Stadium 2008 All Star Game Pins – don’t ask me how. The center of the pin includes a little encasement that has dirt from the Yankee Stadium field – cool. I bet you don’t have one.
Sometimes you have to wonder about the grown-ups – allegedly - that run Major League Baseball. The Chron’s Jesus has a piece today on the ‘Stros/Cubbies game the other night that had a lightning storm backdrop and included tornado warnings. The powers that be still wanted to play the game – freaking idiots. It is kind of a scary piece.
We let one get away at Wrigley yesterday afternoon so now we’re thirteen back.
