Tomorrow will mark the second year of Daily Commentary. It'll also be another interesting day for local Latino politics. As usual, Commentary will stay in the kitchen.
Speaking of heat, at yesterday's Houston City Council meeting, One Of My Best
Friends threw out a real good idea - moving National Night Out to the Spring or Fall
when it is a lot cooler. That makes a whole lot of sense. Early August is a
primo month for 100 degree weather and skeeters in these parts. I hope she is
able to get the Night Out powers to be to be flexible on future scheduling.
You got to hand it to Abe Saaverdra, the Superintendent of the Houston Independent
School District, he does not shy away from dealing with the tough issues. You may
not agree with his take on policy positions, but you at least have to acknowledge
that he takes full responsibility. We're lucky to have him.
The starting quarterback for the Oklahoma Sooners was booted off the team for
violating NCAA rules. Up in and around Norman, Oklahoma they're having to take all
his gear off of the store shelves - jerseys, bobbleheads, T-shirts, etc.. Kind of
like what's going to happen when they keep DeLay on the ballot, all of the current
CD 22 wannabees' gear is going to end up in the dumpster . . . . awwww!
Heath Ledger, the actor of "Brokeback Mountain" fame, is supposed to play "The Joker" in the next Batman movie. I thought Cesar Romero was a pretty good "Joker" and I thought Jack Nicholson was an outstanding "Joker." Ledger really has to dig deep to come up with something special to top the Romero and Nicholson performances. Hey, how about "I wish I knew how to quit you, Batman."
